On our last night in Rota the Spain Vs Italy Euro Football
final was on so we of course went out to see it. We have been in places before where a game
was won like near Marseille when they won the French league in 2010 and heard
all the celebrations (and we were in Italy when they were booted out of the
World cup in 2010 what a sombre place that was!)
What an atmosphere was in town, every little square had
crowds sitting outside cafes and bars who had put TV’s or big screens outside
for the occasion. There were all ages
from the very young to the very old, men and women basically the whole
town I think! The only trouble we had was finding somewhere
to watch it as we were a little late getting there. We ended up back in our favourite sherry bar
for the match as then the girls could get a bite to eat too. Kaylee had on her early birthday present
which was a Spanish football outfit and she loved it being a little show off
all the attention she got.....
Abarnyway as you know Spain won four nil! The town went crazy, everyone poured out
intot he squares and cars were going around with huge Spanish flags hanging out
of the windows and blowing their horns and everyone was very very happy. We went home soon after (well after a couple
of celebratory sherries) but the celebrations carried on well into the night as
you could hear from the marina. I went
up into town the next morning before we left to post some letters and the town
workers had cleaned up everything already and you would never know how packed
the place had been the night before!
